Colleges and Universities Whose Professors Publicly Declare an Oath of Fidelity to the Teachings of the Magisterium
In looking at graduate programs, I came across ex corde ecclesia (or alternatively, ex corde ecclesiae in Vatican documents). This document describes the fact that Roman Catholic universities are to be more than just "Catholic-by-name" only. They are called to be aligned with the Magisterium.
I came across this guide for 2005-2006, which appears to have originially come from Faith and Family, Fall 2005 on pages 84-91. According to the guide, the following schools in the United States answered yes that both the president and "all theology professors take the oath of fidelity." This seems to be an attempt to implement ex corde ecclesia:

- Belmont Abbey College (Belmont, NC)
- The Catholic University of America (Washington, D.C.)*
- Christendom College (Front Royal, VA)**
- College of Saint Thomas More (Fort Worth, Texas)
- Franciscan University of Steubenville (Steubenville, OH)
- Holy Apostles Seminary and College (Cromwell, CT)
- John Paul the Great Catholic University (San Diego, CA)***
- Magdalen College (Warner, New Hampshire)
- Southern Catholic College (Dawsonville, GA)
- St. Joseph's College of Maine (Standish, ME)****
- Thomas Aquinas College (Santa Paula, CA)
- Thomas More College of Liberal Arts (Merrimack, NH)
- University of Sacramento (Sacramento, CA)
* "The Catholic University of America has a unique status. Its School of Theology, School of Canon Law, and School of Philosophy are ecclesiastical faculties. The professors have a canonical mission from the Vatican rather than a mandatum from their local bishop.

*** Brand new university to open in Fall 2006, according to the guide above. John Paul the Great Catholic University's fidelity statement can be found here. It says that "all faculty involved with the teachings of the faith-based classes will be required to take an Oath of Fidelity, pledging their faithfulness and adherence to the magisterial teachings of the Catholic Church."
**** The majority of the faculty is not Catholic.

I found the following online article regarding Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas :
"All professors teaching Catholic theology at the college have applied for and received the mandatum. Even more, the college has made the mandatum a condition for hiring theology faculty."
The article doesn't make it clear (to me, anyway) that the faculty has to take an oath of fidelity, just that they have received the mandatum.
Still, in good conscience I feel it's critical that I post this information. Please send me any further comments (as this one came from a comment from a reader on tomreagan.com).
